How to extract a single page from a PDF as an image
Need just page 4 of a 60-page report as a picture for a slide, a chat message or a support ticket? You do not have to convert the whole document. Here is how to save one page — or a handful — of a PDF as JPG or PNG, plus how to cut out just part of a page.
Save one page as an image (any device)
- Open PDF to Image and drop the PDF on the box.
- Click None to deselect everything, then click the thumbnail of the page you want — or type its number in Page range, e.g.
4. - Choose PNG for text and charts or JPG for photos and scans, and a resolution (150 DPI for screens, 300 DPI for print).
- Click Convert 1 page and then Download. The file is named like
report-page-04.png.
Nothing is uploaded: the page is rendered by your browser, so this is fine for confidential documents too.
Page range syntax
The range box accepts the same notation as most print dialogs:
| You type | Pages converted |
|---|---|
4 | Page 4 only |
1-3 | Pages 1, 2 and 3 |
1-3,5,9 | Pages 1, 2, 3, 5 and 9 |
10- | Page 10 to the last page |
-5 | Pages 1 to 5 |
all or empty | Every page |
1 - 3, 5). Reversed ranges like 5-3 are read as 3–5, and a range that runs past the end stops at the last page.Extract only part of a page
To get a single chart, photo or signature from a page, convert the page first at a generous resolution (200–300 DPI), then crop the image:
- Windows: open the image in Photos → Edit → Crop, or in Paint → Select → Crop.
- macOS: open it in Preview, drag a selection and press Cmd+K (Crop).
- iPhone / Android: open it in the Photos/Gallery app and use Edit → Crop.
Converting at a higher DPI first means the cropped part still has plenty of pixels.
What about screenshots?
A screenshot (Win+Shift+S, Cmd+Shift+4) is quick, but its resolution is limited to what your screen shows. A full A4 page on a 1080p monitor is less than 1,000 px tall — fine for a chat, too blurry to read small print or to print. Rendering the page directly at a chosen DPI gives you a clean image at any size, without browser toolbars or scroll bars.
Extracting embedded photos at their original quality
Converting a page produces a picture of the whole page. If you need the original photo files embedded in a PDF (for example the camera images in a catalog), use a dedicated tool such as pdfimages from Poppler:
pdfimages -all catalog.pdf photo
# saves every embedded image in its original formatFAQ
Can I extract several separate pages at once?
Yes. Type them as a list, e.g. 2,7,15, or click several thumbnails. With more than one image you can download them together as a ZIP.
Will the extracted page look exactly like the PDF?
Yes — it is rendered with PDF.js, the engine behind Firefox’s PDF viewer, including fonts, vector graphics and annotations that are part of the page.
