How to create a QR code without uploading anything
A QR code is just a picture of some text. The text might be a website, a Wi-Fi password or a vCard with your mobile number. “Generate online” often means that text is sent to a server, drawn there, and sent back as an image. You do not need that extra trip — and for Wi-Fi and contacts you should not take it.
Two kinds of QR websites
| Server generator | In-browser generator | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the code is drawn | On the company’s computer | In your browser tab |
| Wi-Fi password / vCard | Leaves your device | Stays in the tab |
| Works after you go offline | Usually no | Yes, once the page has loaded |
| This site | — | ✅ QR code generator |
If a site asks you to “create an account to download”, or the image URL is on another domain (cdn.example.com/qr?data=…), the content was sent away. If you can disconnect Wi-Fi after the page loads and still download PNG and SVG, it was drawn locally.
Make a code on this site
- Open the QR code generator (or a shortcut such as URL or Wi-Fi).
- Pick the type and fill the fields. The preview updates as you type.
- Download PNG for screens or SVG for print.
- Optional: turn the internet off and download again. The file is the same, because nothing needed a server.
What is actually inside the code
The generator shows the encoded string under the preview. A URL QR contains https://…. A Wi-Fi QR contains WIFI:T:WPA;S:…;P:…;;. Anyone who scans it (or reads the PNG with a decoder) sees that string. Privacy here means the website operator never sees it — not that the code is secret. Do not put a QR with a private password on a public poster.
FAQ
Can you see the Wi-Fi password I typed?
No. It is never sent to our servers. It exists in the page’s memory until you close the tab.
Why do some generators require sign-up?
Usually to attach analytics or to sell “dynamic” codes whose destination they can change later. That needs their server in the middle. Static codes do not.
